You should feel safe in your home. It’s one of the few spaces in the world where you can really let your hair down and relax, and the last thing you want is an intruder bursting into your home and disrupting your peace of mind. Having the proper locks on your home’s doors will ensure that the only people who can get into your home are the ones that you want to. Below we have listed the four most common types of locks used to keep your home’s doors secure.

  • Knob Locks: When you think of a lock on a door, your mind most likely envisions a knob lock. Knob locks can be used on pretty much any door in a house, and usually have a small switch in the middle of the handle that allows the occupant of a room to lock that room from the inside. While not the most secure lock type, knob locks are the most common type of locks in most homes.

  • Deadbolt Locks: Deadbolt locks are the most popular locks used to protect the front door of a home. Their simple yet secure design makes them one of the most secure locks available on the market. Utilizing a metal bolt that slides directly into the door frame, deadbolts cannot be “popped” open like their knob lock cousins.

  • Lever-handle Locks: Commonly found on interior doors, lever-handle locks are valued for their stylish design and ease of use. Similar to  a knob lock, lever-handle locks are secured by pressing a button on the inside face of the handle. Because of this, lever-handle locks should not be used as the only form of lock on a front door.

  • Keyless Entry Pads: Although mechanical versions of this technology have been around for decades, the latest models can utilize a digital keypad to secure your door. Simply enter a code or use a special card, and the lock will disengage the deadbolt and allow you entry. This lock is great for families because one code can be used to let in multiple people without the risk of losing any keys.

Choosing which locks to use in your home is a purely personal choice. However, it is usually best to include some sort of deadbolt lock on any doors leading outside of your home. This ensures that anyone trying to get inside of your home will have a tough time doing so. Contact us today at Redlands Lock & Key, and see how our lock specialists can keep your home secure.
